About Cheryl Del Toro
From an early age I wanted to draw and paint. In recent years I have explored the world of photography and digital enhancements. Born in Los Angeles, I attended Los Angeles and Orange County colleges, taking classes in drawing, painting, design and art history along with private instruction.
After working for over 20 years in aerospace, I started focusing on art. Having a love for travel and history took me on a journey to places I thought I’d never see.
Traveling to Europe four times since 1989, I visited charming cities such as Paris and Venice; the magnificent castles in Spain and Germany; Alps in Switzerland and Austria. Cruising the Mediterranean in 2012, a trip of a life time, included Rome-Italy, Athens-Greece and Istanbul-Turkey. Exploring their different cultures, places of worship and ancient structures was an amazing experience and art inspiring.
Additional travels to Mexico, Hawaii and Jamaica added festive colors, natural beauty and charm to my paintings and photos.
In New York I was fascinated by skyscrapers and architecture. Austin’s 6th Street jazz and blues scene, with its flashing neon lights from noisy bars, caught my attention and added new night scenes to my photography.
I visited Hollywood’s wild and crazy side on an open bus tour which provided unusual perspective to my photos. Santa Ana’s quaint historical homes and gardens were delightful and the Victorian mansions in Williamsport, Pennsylvania took me back in time.
From 2004-2013 I was a facilitator in the “Memories in the Making” art program for Alzheimer’s patients. Using watercolor, I assisted ladies with this disease to express their feelings and emotions that were trapped inside.
I currently serve as a Windows Gallery Director on the Huntington Beach Art League board.
My past exhibits include: The Showcase Gallery, Costa Mesa; The Huntington Beach Art Center; The Village Edwards Theater, Costa Mesa; Bristol’s Restaurant, Santa Ana; Pero’s Restaurant, Huntington Beach; Santa Ana’s Wilshire Square Neighborhood Secret Gardens Tea and Art Show; Orange County Fair; Borders Bookstore; and The Huntington Beach Central Library Window’s Gallery and Corner Gallery; Huntington Beach City Hall; RIBBA Art Exhibits at Coastline Art Gallery, Newport Beach; All Media Exhibits at Irvine Fine Arts Center, Irvine; Laguna Beach City Hall; Chaos Exhibit OCCCA, Santa Ana; Smile: Expressions of Orange County at Irvine’s Great Park Gallery.
